I thought this was worth an announcement to all of you supporting our cause to conserve the precious biodiversity of the Osa Peninsula. Yesterday June 14, 2009 the rare Harpy eagle (Harpia harpyja) was spotted near the road to Carate, just in front of the Osa Biodiversity Center! This is huge news since a quick internet search doesn't turn up any sightings more recent than five or six years. In recent conversations with MINAE park guards, they told me that they saw a Harpy eagle on OBC grounds four years ago. We can now reset the counter and start looking for this majestic bird's next appearance.
